I can help you anticipate future challenges as your child develops. Who I Am

Sunni B Markowitz M.Ed.

Whether as a special needs advocate, an academic researcher, community leader and volunteer, or mother, my career has been defined by a singular commitment to education for over 30 years. I am a certified Brain First, (ICF accredited training) Coach, using neuroscience based research to support goal setting and behavioral change. In addition, as a Teen Wisdom Life Coach, I have a full curriculum to use with teens and young adults to encourage self awareness that can lead to enhanced life skills.

As the founder of Camp Lantern Creek, I developed a mission-driven program to empower girls and young women, including a four year leadership program for high school girls.  Working and training a staff of young adults for 10 years provided me an opportunity to mentor them and assist in their transition into adult independence.

Prior to opening camp, I advocated for many special needs children and worked as a researcher and education liaison at The Institute of Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) and the University of Texas Medical School. While pursuing my M.Ed. at the University of Houston, I worked on a research project examining reading curriculum in elementary schools. In my early career, I taught preschool at the Becker Early Childhood Center, earned my B.A. in Developmental Psychology from the University of Colorado, and also led a youth pilgrimage to Israel.

I have been an avid fundraiser, community advocate and board member for a wide range of organizations including various non-profits and schools. Attending camp for 14 years as a camper and staff member, the summer camp experience is a passion of mine. The establishment of Camp Lantern Creek in 2011 allowed me to marry my strengths as an advocate and educator to my background as a community leader bringing a new vision of summer camping to Texas children. I consider myself a visionary of inspiring young women and girls to be confident and independent young leaders to help make our world a better place!

Testimonials

From those who know Sunni...

i just wanted to say thank you again for all your help with A… he met with one of his professors this week and had a great conversation!  he explained his medical situation to him and explained what his struggles are etc.  the professor really appreciated that and went through his last test with him to point out what he did wrong and gave him strategies on how to study and work.  A has met with him several times this year and developed a good relationship but he never explained his condition or anything before.  everything he learned from you gave him the confidence to have that tough conversation and with the great outcome, i feel like he will do it more going forward!  just wanted to share and say thank you again!!  we still need to find a time to get together!!
